New way to view our apparel catalog

Our catalogOn our site here we have a link where you can view our website-based catalog. Find it here.

We also have a printed catalog that many of our customers like to use. It’s laid out entirely differently than the website. Now that same catalog is available from our Facebook page. It’s a complete Zoom Catalog version of our printed catalog. (Zoom Catalog refers to the software that makes the catalog work.)

To find and use the catalog, head over to our Facebook page. Then click on the Apparel & Bag Cat item in the left-hand column.

Clicking will whisk you to another page where the Zoom Catalog will load (this may take a minute or two). When it finishes loading, a tool bar will appear.

The toolbar

The tool bar

You will also see a Full Screen button at the bottom of the catalog if you want a larger image and to lose all the Facebook items.

Tools in the tool bar

You can use the Zoom Catalog tools to perform chores like go to first page of the catalog, go to the previous page, view table of contents, view index, go to a specific numbered page (that you fill in), search on keywords, go to the next page, go to last page. Place your cursor over the icon in the tool bar and a tool tip will appear telling you what the tool is.

Magnifying glasses

One icon looks like a magnifying glass. In the tool bar, that is the search tool. You can put in a keyword to search on. When the magnifying glass appears as the cursor, you can use it to zoom in or out by clicking.

Share the catalog

There is a share tool in the tool bar, too. Use it to share the catalog with friends and colleagues. You can either send an email or share it through social media. This is very useful in cases where more than one person chooses garments and accessories for an organization.

Zoom catalog vs print catalog

While some people still love to use printed catalogs, one slick advantage of the online catalog for some customers is the ability to keyword search. This helps you find things fast. The zoom feature is also handy for checking out the details. Of course, we still provide printed catalogs, available free at out shop or delivered for $5 shipping (refundable on your order.)

How to wash embroidered garments

Embroidered logoEmbroidered garments are valued assets for your group, company, or personal image. Taking care in how you launder them will extend their long life and keep them looking fresh and clean for ages.

Some garments with embroidery take more care than others. Big high-density designs and especially those that are square or rectangular in shape are subject to curling. We usually point this out to people during the design process of their embroidery so they know what to expect.

Tips for best results

  • Do not use bleach.
  • Wash embroidered items separately from non-embroidered items for at least one initial washing cycle.
  • Do not pack the wash too tightly. This could cause abrasive action that may cause damage to the thread.
  • Do not leave embroidered items soaking in water or in a wet pile.
  • Do not hand-wring-embroidered garments. This may cause the thread to distort and with it the look of the design.
  • Stain removers may damage colorfastness and integrity of the thread.

In addition, here are some drying and ironing tips.

  • ALWAYS iron embroidery on the inside of the garment by turning the garment inside out.
  • When you have large embroidery designs, do not put these in the dryer. Instead, lay them flat to dry. Iron them on the inside of the garments if you need to flatten out embroidery that is curling.

We can help you with your fund-raising effort

Embroidered shirt for fund-raising

Raise consciousness and funds with embroidered shirts

We often serve the needs of nonprofits, schools, or other organizations that embrace fund-raising efforts. They often like to sell embroidered hats or shirts or other popular products to raise money for specific causes.

Your group might like to do this, too, but maybe you think your budget couldn’t stretch enough to buy the products to sell. In challenged economies, advertising and promotion budgets often get whacked as a first step to control costs. However, there are some clever ways to finance your fund-raising efforts.

One of the best ways is to find a sponsor. Depending on the nature of your cause or organization, you might find a corporate sponsor quite willing to subsidize your purchase of embroidered goods. You get some or all of your stock of goods to sell with little or no money out of your own pocket. In exchange, they acquire the right to have their logo embroidered somewhere on the garments.

In the example shown above, the corporate logo of the sponsor is embroidered on the shirtsleeve.

A PLAN OF ACTION

If you would like to do a fund-raiser, here is a method for doing so. Let’s say that you decided to sell t-shirts to raise money for your cause. You would first check with us to get pricing for the shirts (or other item) you want embroidered or printed. This would include coming up with the design, essentially your idea for the content (graphic, text, and layout.) Based on your specifications, we would quote you a price on the cost of the goods including embroidery or printing. It is best to have your design work all thought out before you approach potential sponsors.

While finding sponsorship may sound challenging, it may be a lot easier than you might think. Why would a corporation want to sponsor you? In the first place, they would get to advertise on your shirt. This is actually a very effective way for them to get more name recognition. In the second place, it is a tax write-off for them. In the third place, it helps fulfill a corporate mission to give back to the community. Corporate sponsors like to show their involvement in community projects or in other causes that help out where help is needed.

When a corporate sponsor buys the shirts and in turn donates them to your organization, you can sell the shirts and keep 100% of the sales. You can use those profits to meet the objectives you set for your fund-raising.

Maybe you and your company are in a position to sponsor embroidered shirts or other product for someone else. Sponsorship is a great way to get your name out. If it’s for a good cause, it sends a great message about you or your company’s involvement in the community. It helps an organization raise money and it is good public relations.

Check embroidery prices–we think ours are better

piggy bankJust the other day a woman came to our shop. She had searched the Internet for a personalized baby blanket. She said that the best price she could find for an embroidered blanket that included two words of text (!) was $70!

Outraged, she searched for Plan B and found Creativity On! We were local to her, and she was overjoyed to learn that we’d do the embroidery she wanted for $15. So she went to a local store and found a baby blanket she liked. Unlike shopping on the web, she could touch and feel the quality of the blanket and was happy with what she found.

End result: she was thrilled to get exactly the blanket she wanted with the embroidery she wanted, and the total was about half what the best deal she found on the Internet. She spent a little money on gas to shop, but saved on shipping by shopping local.

COMPARE PRICES

It’s worth the effort to compare what you may be paying now for embroidery. We are continually amazed at how people spend more money with other companies to get the exact same product we would sell for less.

Another woman told us she was paying $29.50 each for an embroidered polo shirt. Our price for the exact same shirt embroidered would have been $20.00.

COMPANY STORES

Many large corporations have employee stores where they sell company branded merchandise. We often see prices much more expensive than what our price would be for the same item. In some cases we’ve seen company stores often charge retail pricing for the garments with retail embroidery fees added on top of that.

Once we have a logo digitized and ready to stitch, we’re good to go. In many cases, our wholesale pricing saves money. The best way to learn how much money we can save you is to call with the details (what kind or garments you’re looking for and what kind of logo or art you want embroidered) and ask.

STITCHING ON GARMENTS YOU PROVIDE

Some people think it’s cheaper to buy shirts on sale at a discount store, and then have us do the embroidery. However, despite the happy baby blanket story above, this strategy usually does not save money.

Our standard price to set up and stitch text on your garment starts at $15 per item. So if you bought a polo shirt on sale for $14 and had us embroider it, the total would be $29. Our package price (shirt + embroidery) could be less than that.

In addition, people shopping for bargains frequently buy garments on sale that frankly aren’t up to being embroidered upon. The understandable urge to save money needs to be tempered with a sense of product quality–what works for embroidery and what people will enjoy wearing.

The best strategy for you, again, would be to call and ask.

INTERNET PRICING

When comparing prices on the Internet, it’s useful to note all the factors that go into a price quote. It’s common for companies to publish a really cheap price that you start with on the order form, then to add on different fees as the order progresses through the check-out process.

In the low price game, some companies publish wild bargain prices and do not advise consumers that the garments are of poor quality, betting that price shoppers won’t really investigate what they’re buying.

At Creativity On we tell you everything you need to know to decide. We treat our customers the way we want to be treated as customers. Providing you with customer satisfaction is the best way to earn your repeat business.

It just takes a phone call to us to get a price quote. In most cases we will meet or beat the price you have been paying.

Make your ad dollars work harder

I Survived promotional t-shirt

A t-shirt is a great promotional tool for your business or cause

If you’re a small business person, you’ve probably experienced placing an ad in a newspaper or magazine, hoping for the best yet ultimately not getting much bang for your ad-buying buck. More like a soft thud.

Today’s print ad hits tomorrow’s recycle bin, and with it goes your ad message and the end of the usefulness of the money you spent.

If your ad budget is stretched tight, you might consider the value of embroidered or printed promotional giveaways.

A printed t-shirt, embroidered cap, or some other garment emblazoned with your message, tagline, or logo can put your name out there with a lot of repeat exposure. People like wearing cool clothes–just look around you when you are out and about. Those clothes keep beaming out your message with every wearing.

At Creativity On we can help you find something that fits your budget and your promotional needs–and won’t be tossed into the recycle bin.

The advantages of shopping locally with us

Salem Slyders embroidered logo on jacket

Salem Slyders embroidered logo on jacket

While we greatly appreciate the continued patronage of customers from all around the country, we like to remind Oregonians about the advantages of shopping locally.

See and Touch. The biggest advantage is that dealing with us locally gives you the opportunity to look at printing and embroidery samples up close and personal before mass production begins. Touch them, see them, scrutinize them. If need be, tweak it to perfection. It’s definitely a confidence-builder when you’re in the process of placing a large order. While we photograph stitch-out or print samples for our out-of-town clients, there’s simply no substitute for seeing the real deal.

No price surprises. Shopping locally also eliminates a problem many Internet shoppers are not prepared for—all the add-on charges that propel an initially great-sounding come-get-me price into something much costlier. With us at Creativity On, you’ll know all the costs up front. No unwelcome surprises.

Shipping options. Shopping locally also improves delivery options. You can save on shipping and assure against shipping delays through local pick-up of finished orders. Sometimes that’s enough to make shopping locally more of a bargain.

Help is near. You also know where we are if you have a problem with anything you purchase from us. When you deal on the Internet with a provider you don’t know, you can never be sure that they’ll honor their guarantees. When you shop locally, you have more assurance that any issues will be resolved.

Re-orders and fill-ins. Shopping locally with us also helps with your re-orders. We’re constantly being told, “Do it just like you did last time.” We keep extensive notes to know what “last time” entailed. We’re also just a call away if you need to order an extra item not included in your initial order.

Personal service. Besides all that, the fact of the matter is that we love doing what we do, and it shows when you visit us. You’ll notice by the questions we ask and the procedures we follow that our ultimate goal is to please you. If you look good, we look good.

Custom shirts for church groups

t-shirt graphic for church

Direct to garment printing enhances creative expression and can save money

Religious groups love making t-shirts. It’s a great way to spread the word, share the joy, and make a statement. T-shirts are also good for when people are out among the community. Shirts help church groups reach out to others and establish their identity.

Most groups order screen printing when they want new t-shirts because that’s been the standard. We offer a new and completely different kind of printing technology that lets religious shirt designers turn their creativity on in bold new ways.

In screen printing, you are limited in color choices. You usually need to buy a minimum number of shirts. You also can’t make any changes to the graphic unless you make a whole new screen. New screens also need to be made for each added color and you also pay for extra ink. If you aren’t printing hundreds of shirts, these extra charges can be killer.

Direct to garment printing offers full-color printing using a sophisticated inkjet technology designed especially for printing onto fabric. By being so different from screen printing, DTG offers:

  • No minimums
  • No set-up charges
  • No limits on colors used
  • Easy to make changes or personalize

Direct to garment printing also supports color gradient blends and other digital effects. Anything you can produce using programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop you can print. The ink blends in and bonds with the fabric leaving no texture. Notice in the photo above how the speckles in the shirt show through giving the shirt more visual depth.

There are two types of DTG printers. One kind uses non-opaque ink and prints on white or light-colored garments. That’s what we use.

Another kind of DTG machine can print white ink, which gives it the ability to print light colors onto dark fabrics. Printing on dark colors costs more because more ink and more labor is involved. Printing on darks also leaves texture like screen printing does. We have partners who do this work.

At Creativity On, we do not require minimums. One original shirt costs around $20, which includes the shirt. Wholesale pricing starts at 12 pieces using the same graphic. You can save money buying wholesale. We are happy to view your graphic, discuss your printing options, and work with you and your group.

We also offer embroidered t-shirts, polo shirts, hats, jackets, and anything else that can be embroidered.

Design a winning shirt for your business

DTG printer with promotional t-shirt

Who wants to wear your creation?

The best way to get good value for the business dollars you spend on promotional shirts is to take time and effort to design the right product. The bottom line is that if a shirt is not worn by the people you give it to, any promotional value to you it may have had will be lost.

Our experience in producing promotional shirts has led us to the following considerations to figure into your design for a successful outcome:

• Appearance. Does it look cool? Is it something people will want to wear?

• Style and comfort. Is the shirt you provide comfortable to wear? Have you taken into account that women often want a more fitted, feminine shirt?

• Advertising effectiveness
. Does the combination of words and pictures send a clear message? Is it consistent with your other branding? Does it make sense?

• Appropriateness. Does the shirt, taken as a whole, appeal to your target audience?

We at Creativity On think that t-shirts make an excellent promotional tool. Unlike print advertising, they don’t end up in the recycle bin the next day. Yet for them to work well for their intended purpose–to promote your business–they need to be well designed. Let’s look at the ingredients for success in more detail.

Appearance

Unless ugly is a deliberate design feature, unattractive shirts won’t get worn and your money will have been wasted. Many people overlook this simple design principle in their rush to get something with their logo out there. Often they try to come up with a design on the fly for a deadline they ignored.

It might pay you to pay a designer. It will definitely pay you to get other people’s opinions about a proposed shirt design. Bearing in mind that you cannot please all the people all the time, you can at least get some crucial feedback about your creative vision.

A pleasing design will be worn with enthusiasm. Depending on the circumstances, one way to accomplish this is to create a fun or feel-good shirt theme. Your business is shown endorsing the theme. This is actually done all the time in commercials that sell feelings such as joy and satisfaction with products such as a juicy hamburger.

Style and comfort

Even if a shirt’s graphic design is superb, if the physical shirt is not comfortable or stylish enough to wear, especially for women who are generally more style-conscious, the shirt will stay in the drawer.

It pays to take this into account when you order the shirts. As much as you may be tempted to cut costs, take overall value into consideration. Order a nice variety of shirts.

Another consideration is the thickness or body of the shirt. Heavily discounted shirts that you see advertised on the Internet may be so thin as to be virtually see-through. That may be fine for wearing around the house but if you want to see your message circulating in public, it pays to select higher, thicker quality.

Advertising effectiveness

Judge a shirt’s advertising effectiveness by answering what it is you’re hoping to achieve from people wearing it? It could be as simple as promoting brand awareness. People often like to wear shirts that are as simple as, say, a Nike swoosh logo. To the wearer it’s cool. For Nike it’s another time that their brand logo gets noticed by people in public.

The message might be more complex like announcing the grand opening of a new business. The shirt may serve to inform people about the new place or the festivities, and then past that date, it may be more like a souvenir shirt that reinforces the brand.

Some promotional shirts are more like morale boosters for employees to wear. Again be aware that the message should be something that will cause people to feel good when they wear it. It should be something that an employee will be pleased to talk about if someone asks about it.

Effectiveness may also involve how your message survives time. To get the most bang for your buck, think long-term yield from the design. It may be geared initially for a timely event, but it helps to consider how the design will hold up in 6 months or a year.

Appropriateness

When a shirt is being designed for the public to wear, it may not necessarily be a message that a corporate officer (or even you) would rather see. Think end user. You might want a shirt that says “Our company is great!” but your employees or fans may want one that says “Our company kicks butt.”

The point is to match the message you want to send with the tastes, as close as you can determine them to be, of those who will do the wearing. Think about such variables as gender, culture, age, region. If you’re going to sell shirts to Oregon Duck fans, don’t design in Beaver orange and black.

All this may entail putting something out there that you personally may not like all that much but your research data, ad people, or designer suggest will be the most effective with your target, the people you are trying to reach.

At Creativity On we can help you make your choices with our years of experience. We can help you select a nice variety of garments at great prices. We can make suggestions on artistic techniques to meet your objectives, including whether to use printing or embroidery.

Embroidery clip art

three girls thumbs up

Get what you need!

Sometimes you may want to create an embroidered garment and may not have suitable art for it. Maybe you’re creating apparel for a choir or cheerleader group or band or sports team and don’t have the right graphics for it. What do you do?

One option is to ask us. We have volumes filled with pre-digitized embroidery clip art. Perhaps we will have something to fit the bill. (It’s worth it to note that we have a huge supply of national vorporation logos already digitized for embroidery. If you work for a national company we may have the logo you need.)

Another option is to shop for pre-digitized embroidery clip art. When you find a graphic you would like to use, call us. Let us know which site you found it on and what the item number is. We’ll take it from there. These are particularly suitable for embroidering for gifts with artistically rendered designs.

We recommend these two sites:

Embroidery Library

Embroidery.com

A third option is to create your own art. This option costs more but may help you get exactly what you are looking for. It’s to have an art file you already have (logo, line art, etc.) converted into an embroidery file. Most of our customers go this route because they want to use their logos and graphics.

Use clip art. If you don’t already have art there are great options for finding royalty-free clip art on the web. One such service is this one. They have millions of pieces of art that can be used as is or edited to better suit your needs. We find it best to work with vector art because it is easy to re-size without any loss in quality.

The process would be to download the art and then have you or your designer create a file exactly as you would like it to be embroidered. When you’re done creating, save it as a jpg, email it to us, and we will have it digitized into an embroidery file.
